What’s Your Role at The Carers Centre?
I am an Advice and Advocacy Worker providing information to carers in LeicesterShire and Rutland on a whole host of issues. Advice on benefits, making grant applications, identifying suitable activities or opportunities for carers are just a few examples of how I can help.
I also provide a ‘helping hand’ by offering assistance to ensure carers views or voices are heard. Sometimes this can mean making a phone call on someone’s behalf, explaining a decision-making process or connecting carers up to an appropriate service.
How did you get involved with The Carers Centre?
I was aware of the Carers Centre through my previous roles as a Dementia Support worker for the Alzheimer’s Society, I knew how the range of services and opportunities offered made such a difference to the lives of carers - particularly during the local Covid lockdowns and when social isolation and loneliness affected so many people.
I started my new role in June 2021 and am delighted to be a part of such a committed and dedicated team. We are like minded individuals who share a common goal working together to support, inform, and empower carers to make their caring role easier. We understand how challenging this can be and will listen and act with empathy, compassion, and respect.
